Rare » Toyota Trucks! «Don’t show truck |Show Truck| Show next truck» Rare Heavy Duty Diesel Tacoma 4Runner 4 Wheel Drive 2 Wheel Drive SR5.com 8 February 2015 Did you know? by admin The 1983 Chicago Auto Show featured a Mojave Edition pickup? Sure looks amazing with all the new chrome, special alloy wheels, and just a hint of the bronze tint on the windows. Also a rare look at the original pinstriping which was the only addition to the clear coat paint, no SR5 stripes or fender badges. Not exactly sure when they were first available but these Toyota CB radios could be added to new Toyota trucks as a Dealer Installed Option (DIO). These will fit into the space above the radio on 79-83 2wd and 4wd Toyota pickups. For ’82 & ’83 the pocket is removable and the CB will bolt right in. For 79-81 trucks the pocket plastic will need to be cut off from the dash bezel. There are two models: CB40M and CB40F. The CB40M models (# 00860-00001)were very basic while the CB40F (# 00850-00001) had more features. Shown are the images from the Toyota sales brochure for the DIO option (# 00100-00417). The cb could also be mounted under the dash if desired and one might use the monitor speaker (# 00011-00003) which would attach to the bottom of the cb radio. Usually the idea was to mount the CB above the existing radio so that it could be wired into the same harness; therefore the cb would use the same speakers and power source as the am-fm radio. The cb radio would then cut out the radio sound when the squelch was broken. To do this it seems that an optional relay harness (# 00011-00001) was needed that didn’t come with the CB radio kit. I have been lucky enough to find a used CB40F radio for Old Blue, my ’82 4×4 truck. I installed the radio into the dash, but haven’t ever really figured out how to fully configure it. I have never seen or seen for sale the relay harness, so I just hooked up the sound out to a dash speaker; the one above the glovebox. This actually works OK, but forgoes the idea of muting the radio sound while the cb is active. I have a copy of the installation Guide (# 00401-42546) but there is no description of what antenna was designed to be used or where it should be mounted. I have used a magnetic mount antenna for testing but that’s not a real long term solution. I thought about buying a vintage Harada AM/FM/CB power antenna to replace the factory radio antenna but heard they do not work well. Over the past 15+ years I have been watching these on Ebay, I have only seen two of the CB40F radios that were still new in the box, but was outbid both times. That’s OK though as I already have a good working one installed in the truck and not sure if having the box it came in is worth an extra couple hundred bucks. Looking forward to next year! Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off 24 February 2014 Finally by admin Just picked up the final piece of sheet metal from the painters. The cab ended up being last. I had it assembled for a while, and it was painted a while ago too. But over the past few years the dents and scratches re-appeared. So it was time for refresh. I don’t have a trailer, so the Diesel Dually was pressed into service. Seems to work well to transport. Now its time to put it back together for good. Check back soon for an update. 1981 Toyota cab Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments » 4 December 2013 Show off your SR5 by admin Would be nice to have, but $5k is too much for me. SR5 California vanity plates did not sell on Ebay for $5000 Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off 14 May 2013 Two tone truck paint and stripes update by admin It was a long cold winter. But some progress was done on the project Two-tone truck. First the fenders, doors and hood were stripped down to bare sheet metal and sent off to the painters. After long wait I was able to pick up the fenders and doors which were first finished in blue. I had given up on the idea of having a two-tone stripes re-created so I had planned to have a sign shop cut a mask so the painter could paint on the orange, yellow, black and white stripes. While proposing the task to a local shop owner he asked my why not just have the stripes made? I had been told at various shops that they could not print the colors I needed. So I said go for it if you think you can. A twist of fate – and I had the stripes I needed. I thought it might be best to apply the stripes before having the painter apply the remaining white to the top of the fenders and doors. That way the reveal line would match exactly. So I set off to apply the stripes to thebody panels. The sign guy suggested having a spare set made while they were laying out the jojb and I agreed. So I had two chances to get it right. I started with the right side door first by taping on the stripes to get a general position. I measured and re-measured tomake sure it was in the right position. After all looked to be right,I peeled off a couple of inches of the backing at the bottom of the stripe set and then started working it down flat with a body filler spreader. Ilaid down a couple of inches of the vinyl and then cuta couple of inches of the backing off and continued working up to the top of the panel. Ifound that it was a mistake not tokeep the top of thestripeaway from the door panel. As I was working the bottom of the stripe the top touched and stuck to the door. When I pulled it back off, carefully, it seemed to have streched thevinyl so when I gotto that part it wouldn’t lay down flat. So that first try failed. The second attempt went on without issue; keeping the topheld away at all times. I finished up the right side with the small stripes on the fenders. The left side went on the same way. For some reason the first attempt failed. But I had my backup piece so being extra extra careful I managed to get the stripe on without any trouble. Then I started to peel off the transfer film and found a defect in the stripe. It looked like a drop of solvent got between the stripeand the transfer film. The job was ruined and I had no more backup pieces. So a week laterI got another replacement stripe for the left side door and it went right onwithout any issue. I took the doors and fenders back off the truck and sent them back to the painters. He finished them up by painting the white on and clear coating the vinyl stripes. I picked them up along with the hood and installed everything back on the truck. Things are starting to come together now with most of the body work done. I installed all the parts back into the doors, attached the fender badges, and mounted the hood to new hinges. Now everything is ready to take back off when it’s time to get the cab painted.
